Seychelles is blessed with some of the most beautiful pristine beaches in the world. In fact, if you do a simple Google search for the most beautiful beaches in the world, 9 times out of 10, at least one (if not more) of our stunning beaches will be included in this list. If we’re completely honest, writing this post was a bit of challenge because trying to decide on just 10 beaches to include wasn’t easy.
In any case, here is our list of what we believe are the most beautiful beaches in Seychelles in no particular order (that’s just way too hard).
This almost 600m stretch of beach is located on the northwestern tip of the island of Praslin. Not only is it considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Seychelles, it’s also regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and it’s not hard to see why.
Anse Lazio truly is breath-taking. I guarantee that you will be in complete awe when you first walk out onto the beach and take your first look around. With its stunning rocks, impressive white sand and crystal turquoise waters, it’s no wonder that it’s a favourite for tourists and locals alike.
The actual beach area of Anse Lazio is quite large, making it ideal for children to play and it means there is plenty of space for sunbathing too. However, there is also lots of shade for those who would rather relax under the trees.
You cannot visit Anse Lazio without taking a dip in the clear waters. However, it does get quite deep and can get rough, so it is advisable that children stay close to parents and those that don’t consider themselves to be strong swimmers do not venture out too far.
As far as visiting times go, Anse Lazio is a pretty big beach, so there is plenty of space. However, due to its popularity, it can get busy rather quickly so the earlier you arrive the better.
Beau Vallon Beach is located on Mahé’s north-western coast. It is the island’s longest beach, stretching for almost 2km. The fine, white sand and lovely clear, shallow waters are definitely worth a visit. It’s a great spot for families and couples as it’s got something for everyone. Stick around till the evening and enjoy amazing sunsets too.
The district of Beau Vallon itself is a very popular tourist hub on Mahé. This is mainly due to the numerous hotels, guest houses, restaurants, bars and shops in the area. It is therefore safe to say that Beau Vallon Beach is the most frequented and busiest beach on the island, not just from a tourist point of view, but also for the locals.
Owing to its popularity, it is also the best place to find a range of water-based activities. From jet-skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba-diving and much more. All of these are available and can be arranged from various kiosks and stores along the beach itself.
The beach is also the site of the weekly Bazaar Labrine. This is an event set up each Wednesday involving a number of stalls being set up by local vendors. You can find souvenirs, creole food and traditional creole music and dancing.
Anse Georgette is another gorgeous beach on the island of Praslin. Its fine, powdery sand and clear, turquoise waters give it a prime spot on the list of most beautiful beaches in the world.
Although it can be visited by anyone, Anse Georgette is actually hidden away behind Praslin’s Constance Lemuria Resort. This makes it easily accessible by guests of the hotel as the hotel provides frequent transfers by golf cart. For others wishing to visit, unless you access the beach via boat, you will have to arrange access through the hotel.
Intendance Beach in the south of Mahé also boasts the beautiful blue-green waters and fine, white sand. The beach is a popular surfing spot due to its lack of coral reefs. This however also means that it is more dangerous for swimming as currents can be quite strong. It is therefore not recommended for families with children or those that are not confident swimmers. It is to be avoided during the months of June to September when the south-east trade winds are strongest.
Anse Source d’Argent is probably the most well-known of all of Seychelles’ beaches. Not only does is it regularly featured in the world’s top beaches, it has also appeared in movies, including Castaway starring Tom Hanks.
Anse Source d’Argent is also a great place for snorkelling due to its crystal clear waters. Swimming is also safe as the water is shallow. The sand is more like a fine powder and the large impressive boulders add a unique character to this fantastic landscape.
It is important to note however that as Anse Source d’Argent is located within the grounds of L’union Estate, La Digue’s park of attractions. To enter L’union Estate, there is a small fee to pay. It is well worth it however as apart from Anse Source d’Argent itself, you can also find the giant tortoise enclosure, a vanilla plantation, the historical plantation house as well as the traditional copra factory.
On La Digue’s east coast you can find Anse Cocos. It is known for its shallow pools of water and large granite boulders. It is not a very popular or well-frequented beach on account of the 30 minute hike that is necessary to get to it. It is therefore very secluded and out of the way. Those who are brave and adventurous enough to make the journey will be mesmerised by the white sands and turquoise waters.
Unlike Anse Source d’Argent, Anse Marron is a much lesser known beach. In fact, if you don’t know where to go, you probably wouldn’t find it. That’s why most visitors to the beach usually come with a tour guide.
Located in the south of La Digue, the hike to get there can be precarious, with some slippery and rocky slopes. It is therefore not advisable to visit this beach with children. It is also not the best beach for swimming as the currents can be quite strong. There is a shallow pool surrounded by large boulders however which is perfect for wading around in and paddling.
As a result of the difficult access, Anse Marron is also very secluded and not frequented as much as other, more accessible beaches.
La Digue’s Grand Anse Beach is situated in the southeast of the island. As is typical with the beaches of Seychelles, at Grand Anse Beach, you’ll find pearl white sand, impressive boulders and beautiful blue waters.
However, Grand Anse Beach is not as frequented as some of the other beaches such as Anse Source d’Argent. The two main reasons being the lack of shade and the rough seas, (especially during the months of May/June to September when the south-east trade winds are prevalent. It is therefore not recommended for families. It is best for those wishing to relax, do some sunbathing and watch the waves.
Note that there are a few bars and restaurants along the beach that offer ample opportunity to get out of the sun and sip some cool drinks.
A short walk away from Grand Anse, is its sister beach, Petite Anse. The two beaches therefore share much of the same characteristics, those being not much shade and not great for swimming. It is more suited for surfing and those wishing to relax on the beach.
Like Grand Anse, it makes the list of most beautiful beaches due to its pearly white sands, clear waters and amazing rock structures. Add to this the fact that it is not a busy beach, with most tourists preferring other beaches such as Anse Source d’Argent.
This is one of Praslin’s smallest beaches and a neighbour to Anse Georgette. It too is accessible through the Constance Lemuria Resort and is therefore mostly frequented by guests at the hotel. To visit Petite Anse Kerlan, arrangements can be made through the resort, as is the case with Anse Georgette.
Like Anse Georgette, it is great for swimming and snorkelling. The beaches are made of a soft white sand and lined with palm trees and boulders.
All of the beaches listed above can be found on the three main islands of Seychelles – Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. This is not to say that these are the only islands where stunning beaches can be found, but these are the ones that are most accessible to everyone.
Some of the private islands offering luxurious accommodation are home to a number of other spectacular beaches. Only a few people however are lucky enough to experience these beaches.
North Island also offer secluded beaches, frequented only by guests of the luxury North Island Resort. Its white sands and crystal clear turquoise waters are home to colourful marine life and thus makes snorkelling and diving popular.
Frégate is a private island about 50km from Mahé. It features a luxury five-star resort. Along with being home to over 2000 giant tortoises, Frégate also boasts the stunning Anse Victorin. This beach is perfect for lying around and just relaxing in the sun or shade, or going for a swim and snorkelling in the clear waters.
Denis Island is situated approximately 95km from Mahé and home to private luxury accommodation. It also has some spectacular beaches, boasting the usual powdery sands and turquoise waters. It is also a popular spot for snorkelling and diving due to the vibrant marine life.
Above, we’ve listed 10 of the most beautiful beaches in Seychelles, but in all honestly, all of Seychelles’ beaches are stunning. As mentioned previously, the 10 listed above are all located on the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. This not only makes them the most accessible beaches, but it also makes them the most visited. The beaches located on some of the more remote islands can offer that extra bit of seclusion and privacy making them more attractive for some. Whatever your preferences though, there’s definitely no shortage of gorgeous beaches to visit during your holiday.
