One of the most important steps for planning your trip to Seychelles is deciding when to visit and what you would like to do during your stay. Though it’s true that Seychelles is warm year-round, the weather is still influenced by the trade winds. This means that there is a rainy season as well as periods of stronger winds.
The variations in weather actually mean that Seychelles is a destination in which all types of activities can be enjoyed. For those wishing to just relax, do some swimming and sight-seeing, then April/May or October/November are great times to visit. If you’re looking to get some windsurfing or sailing in, then June to August or September is best.

It goes without saying that visiting Seychelles will involve a lot of time spent at the beach. Therefore, be sure to pack a few swimsuits so you always have one to wear while the others are being washed. In fact, it’s advisable to wear your swimsuit underneath your clothing. A beach is never far off and it can be very refreshing to go for a quick dip in the ocean after a day of exploring.
One of the first things that you’ll notice upon arrival in Seychelles is the heat. It hits you as soon as you step off the plane and if you’ve got on your warm cosy plane outfit, you’re going to get pretty uncomfortable pretty quickly. For this reason, we suggest packing a light summery outfit in your hand luggage so that you can change before disembarking. With queuing, luggage handling and finding your way around a new place, you don’t need the added frustration of feeling uncomfortable.
One of the best Seychelles travel tips is to rent a car. It’s such a great way to explore the islands of Mahe and Praslin as you can do so comfortably and at your own pace. Smaller vehicles are available from around €35 per day from a number of car rental companies. It’s advisable to book online prior to arrival. Mahe is the main island in Seychelles, accounting for over 90% of the total population. This is where you will disembark and can arrange for travel to some of the other islands. Many tourists opt to stay on Mahe but quite a few also travel directly to Praslin upon arrival. Whatever you decide, we suggest that you make some time to visit both Mahe and Praslin as well as La Digue. These are the three main islands of Seychelles and offer so much by way of attractions and sight-seeing opportunities. The tiny capital of Mahe, Victoria, is definitely worth a visit, as is the stunning beaches of Anse Lazio on Praslin and Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue.

Another hugely important Seychelles travel tip is to make sure to have sunscreen and water with you at all times. Staying hydrated throughout the day is vital as it can get very hot. Sunscreen should be applied before going out and re-applied during the day, even on cloudy ones.
Tip: Instead of buying bottled water, invest in a filtered water bottle and just fill up your bottle with tap water.
A holiday in Seychelles would not be complete without sampling the local food. Due to its rich blend of cultures and backgrounds, Seychelles cuisine is an incredible fusion of flavours. Most restaurants will offer a variety of dishes to suit your preference, so there will always be something for everyone. That being said, eating at restaurants every day can get pretty expensive, so we suggest also taking advantage of the many take-aways around the islands. There’s always a large array of options in the take-aways and it’s a great way to sample some real Creole home-style cooking.
Even if you do rent a car, you’ll still be doing plenty of walking around if you plan on visiting some of the sites and exploring some of the hiking trails. Be sure to pack your most comfortable pair of walking shoes or trainers for this. Even better, go for the lightweight, breathable ones.
You think tropics and you picture shorts, colourful shirts and summer dresses right? But make sure you’ve also got a pair of smart-casual outfits for dining out as many hotels and restaurants have a dress code for evening dining.
