Southern Coral Islands

Coëtivy

This coral island lies approximately 290km from the main island of Mahé. It is the largest coral island in the Seychelles with an area of around 9.3km². There is currently a small population on Coëtivy, mostly people who work on the island. Coëtivy was the site of a major shrimp breeding ground where giant tiger prawns were bread for exportation. It is believed there are plans to resume this program in the near future.

Île Platte

Île Platte is situated about 140km from Mahé with an area of about 0.5km². There are few residents on the island, and much like Coëtivy, the residents are engaged in fishing and farming.
